Blood Drive on June 19

Giving blood is one of the most generous gifts a human being can give to another. Every day hundreds of people in our region need blood. We often think first of victims from an auto crash or a traumatic industrial accident. We imagine doctors in the emergency room working frantically and calling for blood to save a life. However, many more people also need transfusions including: burn patients, those fighting cancer and leukemia, many premature babies, those going for heart surgery, and organ transplant recipients. All of these people will need blood or products extracted from donated blood in order to survive. It is not an exaggeration to say that regularly donating blood means you will accumulate a list of anonymous people that are alive only because you decided to give the gift of life.
Crossroads Church organizes blood drives in conjunction with BloodSource. The drives happen on a regular schedule at the frequency recommended by doctors as healthy for donors. We provide a safe and welcoming place to give blood, often with extra special refreshments. Medical staff from BloodSource take you through the process of donating. We think you will find it a very worthwhile and gratifying experience. The blood drive will begin at 12:30pm in our our worship center located at 1101 National Dr and will conclude at 4:30pm.
For more information on donating blood contact Gary Myers (himself a champion blood donor) by email at gary(a)btcsac.com.

“God always meets us where we are and slowly moves us along into deeper things.” – Richard Foster
We have decided to be a community that is learning to pray. We believe prayer will help us to heal, to love, and to hear. We believe we will learn about ourselves, and the people with whom we worship and serve. And we believe it is something we must learn to do together. Join us this Friday evening for an opportunity to continue learning to pray. We begin with sharing a light potluck meal at 6:30 pm at the church and then provide two distinct hour-long opportunities to practice prayer: corporate and contemplative.

Open For Prayer on June 11

“Although God Himself is never rushed to perform His will on earth, there is one thing He does rush to. He rushes to the aid of His children. Often He does not intervene however, until that lost child cries out for help…He is not willing that any should perish, but He waits for us to use our wills to turn to him.” Shawn Craig in Between Sundays.
The Crossroads worship center will be open for prayer this Friday evening. You may wish to come and sit quietly in meditation by yourself. You may also join our group that regularly gathers to pray together. We are finding that prayer together is supportive, healing, renewing, and a host of other things we each need as we go through life. It doesn’t matter how long you have been practicing prayer, or how “good” you are at it. The important thing is that we gather together to talk to God in prayer.
Prayer will begin at 7pm. There will be no meal before our prayer time so please plan to eat before you come.

Free Medical Clinic on June 5

Our free medical clinic is available to anyone with no health insurance or who cannot afford treatment. If you have insurance, please use it so that this free clinic can be for people who have no other access to a doctor.
Are you worried a lingering sore throat might be strep throat? Are you diabetic and need help getting your blood sugar under control? Are you worried about cholesterole? Do you need a prescription refill to take to the pharmacy? Our medical staff will see patients 5 years old and up, and can help you with these types of basic medical care.
Quality medical care is provided for people who need it. Friendly volunteers will greet you and help with the medical history form. All of our clinic staff maintain the strictest standards for keeping medical records confidential between you and the doctor that will treat you. Spanish translation is also available when necessary.
This month we have five health care providers for the clinic. This means we will be able to register 60 patients to be seen. Additional patients will be accepted at the end of the day if there is time available. We are sorry to limit the number of patients the doctors see, but we also want to provide quality care and that takes time. We hope you understand.
Natomas Crossroads Clinic is partially funded by the genrosity of the Kaiser Permanente Community Grants Benefit Program of Northern California Region-Sacramento Valley Area. We also have received partial funding from Catholic Healthcare West in Sacramento.
If you have any questions about the clinic you can reach one of our staff by calling 916-514-6163 or sending an email message to nccfree(a)gmail.com. The staff can provide detailed information about the type of care provided at the clinic.
This is a recurring event that happens the first Saturday of each month from 1:00 to 6:00 pm. The next several events will be: Jun 5, Jul 3, and Aug 7.

Friday Prayer on June 4

“I think my experience with prayer is not much different from most – the Jesus I was raised with was a cosmic santa claus. You had to be flattering to butter Him up, but also concise, as He was very busy…… Many years later I still fight my early tendencies, yet struggle I will.
“Coming to our prayer sessions on Friday nights has been a good exercise for me. I am not always in the mood but the discipline is so good in my life.
“Learning to give God control, trying to discern what His plans are, and letting Him allign my heart to His is never a boring ride! Not always easy, always worthwhile.”
– Nancy Sayers, member at Crossroads
We will begin with a potluck dinner together at 6:30. Following dinner, we will spend about an hour together in prayer and finish up around 8:00.
This is a recurring event that happens on the first and third Friday of each month at the Crossroads worship center. The next several times: Jun 4, Jun 18, and Jul 2.

This event is for Men and sons or boys. It provides a great opportunity to get together and have some great all American summer fun! The game starts at 1:05pm on Sunday, May 23. We will be sitting in section 106 where the tickets are $16 per person.
The ticket price includes a group discount (normally $18 per ticket), so we really need to get a good count on the number of men that will be attending. Please let us know by this Sunday (May 16) if you are interested in attending with us (if you have not already). There will be a sign up sheet available at church this Saturday.
If you’d like more information or to register for the ball game, please contact Fran King by email FYIKing(a)yahoo.com or by telephone 916-928-1433. You can also contact Tom Yambasky by email tyambasky(a)aol.com or by telephone 916-419-9541.
