Potluck and Prayer on August 6

“I think my experience with prayer is not much different from most – the Jesus I was raised with was a cosmic santa claus. You had to be flattering to butter Him up, but also concise, as He was very busy…… Many years later I still fight my early tendencies, yet struggle I will.

“Coming to our prayer sessions on Friday nights has been a good exercise for me. I am not always in the mood but the discipline is so good in my life.

“Learning to give God control, trying to discern what His plans are, and letting Him allign my heart to His is never a boring ride! Not always easy, always worthwhile.”

– Nancy Sayers, member at Crossroads

We will begin with a potluck dinner together at 6:30. Following dinner, we will spend about an hour in prayer and finish up around 8:00. For prayer, you may wish to join our prayer circle to pray together with other people. You may also wish to engage in contemplative prayer where you can focus on God in a quiet place, without the disctractions that bombard us all week.

Open For Prayer on July 30

“To pray is to change. Prayer is the central avenue God uses to transform us.” – Richard Foster

We wish to be a community marked by movement in our lives. We want our souls to experience growth, expansion and development. And we have learned that this has driven us to prayer. Richard Foster’s words are beginning to ring true: To pray is to change.

Join us this Friday evening as we open our doors for prayer. Beginning at 7 pm we will have opportunities to join together to pray for one another, celebrate the joys and lament the pains in our lives in the presence of God. Those interested in exploring the contemplative prayer tradition will find our worship center open for opportunities to engage in silence, solitude and directed prayer.

Come join us as we change.

“The church is not empowered to live differently from any other gathering of people without God’s Spirit.” – Francis Chan

Join us this Friday as we open for prayer. Deeply rooted in our story is our desire to be a people marked by an awareness and responsiveness to God’s Presence, God’s Spirit. In prayer we enter into places of stillness and silence so God’s Spirit can be noticed and allowed to shape us.

We encounter God’s Spirit through corporate prayer and contemplative prayer. Each is an avenue for placing ourselves in the presence of the Spirit so we may be empowered to live differently. We are open for prayer. Join us at 7pm.

Potluck and Prayer on July 16

Are you experiencing a hungering desire to know yourself better? To get closer to God? To make a difference in your community? These yearnings are inborn—yet it may take you years to appropriately identify them. Once recognized, how do you deal with these longings, which leave you restlessly empty until satisfied? Prayer! Prayer moves you inward into personal transformation, upward toward intimacy with God, and outward to minister to others.

We will begin with a potluck dinner together at 6:30. Following dinner, we will spend about an hour together in prayer and finish up around 8:00.

This is a recurring event that happens on the first and third Friday of each month at the Crossroads worship center. The next several times: May 21, Jun 4, and Jun 18.

What’s Up With Gluten?

Karen Medeiros

Participants will catch up on the good and bad news about a very old meat substitute: gluten. AKA seitan (sigh-tahn), not “satan”, this wheat based wonder (or curse), can fill the gap on the plate for meat lovers who are switching to plant based meals. Led by Karen Medeiros, we will learn how to make homemade gluten and turn it into “chicken fried steak” and enjoy a summer supper. Invite your meat eating friends!

Dinner service begins at 6:30 p.m. followed by the presentation at 7:00 p.m. Space is limited and cost is $10 per person.  Please call 916-835-8132 for reservations.

Trapped or Free?

July 3, 2010 by Carol Moses

That To Do List… that relationship… that job… those finances… Do you feel trapped?  Or, are you free?

You’ve heard the good news—that God offers forgiveness, eternal life, and power to live right now. So how can you be assured that He’s making this offer to you? What do you have to do to earn God’s offer? How do you work for it?  Barter for it?

The Word claims you don’t!
You don’t earn. You don’t work. You don’t barter.
You receive.

“It is by grace you have been saved…it is the gift of God.”  Ephesians 2:8

Do you live in freedom, having received God’s grace gift? Or, are you trapped by an enemy of grace: trying to earn approval by living just right – perfectionism.

Identify where perfectionism emerges in your daily living. Recognize how it entraps. Walk away with the antidote. Join us for worship Saturday morning, July 10 @ 11:00 AM.

Open For Prayer on July 9

“Superficiality is the curse of our age.” – Richard Foster

Crossroads exists for all of you. We deeply value creating space that allows for authenticity, for the real you to be embraced, welcomed and brought into the presence of God.

We welcome you, the real you, to join us this Friday at 7 pm as we open our doors for prayer. In prayer we learn to allow God and others to see us as we really are. We receive permission to live authentically and openly as we join with others in a conversation with God and as we come to stillness in contemplative prayer. Opportunities for both will be available.
